A 16-year-old girl, Habiba Samaila, declared missing on Saturday, August 12 by her family in Jigawa has been found dead.
Samaila was found dumped inside a well in Ringim community, Begúwa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Her family alleged that she was gang raped by her boyfriend and his friends before her body was thrown into an old well on the outskirt of the village.
According to reports, her family members made a fruitless search for her since then and on Wednesday, August 16, some residents on their way to the farm perceived a foul odour emanating from the well.
The body was evacuated by security operatives and buried according to Islamic rites.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Lawan Adam, who confirmed the incident on Saturday, August 19, said an investigation was ongoing.
The PPRO said police operatives have arrested the prime suspect who was seen with the deceased at a wedding before she was declared missing.
