Man found with dead child almost killed by mob in Lagos
A swift response by men of the Lagos State police command on Friday, August 4, saved the situation as a mob tried to administer jungle justice on a man found with a dead child in the Ojo area of the state.
The man had been carrying the child for burial in a cemetery when some residents confronted him and started beating him, believing he was a ritualist.
However, after much torture, he was rescued by men of the police Ilemba-Hausa police division.
When interviewed, he told the police that the child had been sick for a while and had just died in the hospital.
He said he was contracted by the parents to help bury the child. He was on his way to bury the child before he was accosted by some residents who accused him of having evil intentions.
The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, told LIB that the parents of the deceased child were invited to the station where they confirmed the man’s claim. He said the parents of the child and the accused man were released to proceed with the burial as planned.
