Twitter users are having a field day commenting on a funny picture of an Igbo man who got married to his white wife at the Federal Marriage Registry, Ikoyi, Lagos over the weekend.
Twitter user, @Abingwa1 posted the wedding photo on Saturday, August 5, hailing the man for being ‘hardworking’.
“Ndu nwoke esika.. Okwanu ka umuazi weelu lie nri.. Nwee ezigbote future.. Nwoke na agba mbo nobi small… Chukwu zoba anyi,” he captioned the post which loosely translates to Men that have secured a good future, and are enjoying themselves.
Many Twitter users, however, found the photo funny on many scores. One, because the white woman appears older than the groom.
Two, because of the height difference between the couple. The man is significantly taller than the bride.
The third reason the picture is trending is that an Igbo man recently advised his fellow men against having court weddings with any woman. He told them to stop involving government in their marital lives.
Many users made the point that it was a double standard to advocate that Igbo men should not do court weddings with a Nigerian woman, but keep mute or even hail the man if the bride is a white woman because of the expected benefits for the man.
Others made the point that some men would marry anyone so long as she is from a privileged country.
The debate is still raging at the time of filing this report.
