21-year-old woman dies after falling into well in Kwara
A 21-year-old woman identified as Hamudat has lost her life after falling into a well in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Eye-witnesses said the incident happened about 2 pm on Saturday, August, 5, 2023 at Ile-Kangu Compound, Pakata area of Ilorin.
The spokesperson of the state Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, who confirmed the incident in a statement said the deceased was mentally handicapped, adding that her corpse was recovered and handed over to her father.
“Today, Saturday 5th August, 2023, a woman of about 21-years old called Hamudat of Ile-Kangu Compound, Pakata area Ilorin, llorin West Local Government Area Kwara State, fell into a domestic well and was recovered dead,” the statement read.
“The terrible incident took place today at about 14:55hrs [02:55PM]
“The Kwara State Fire Service swiftly responded to a rescue operation at Ile Kangu Compound, Pakata area, Ilorin, where Hamudat, a mentally handicapped 21-year-old lady, had fallen into a domestic well
“The skilled firemen successfully recovered her and safely handed her over to her father, Alhaji Suleiman Issa
“The Director of Kwara State Fire Service Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa use this opportunity to advise the general public to prioritize safety, and to be more careful in their day-to-day activities and also desist from sending underage children to fetch water in domestic well.”
