Two Kenyan ladies are facing murder charges after they overdosed a threes0me-seeking man in a bid to rob him.

Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officials have arrested the two ladies, accusing them of administering a stupefying substance on their prey, leading to his death in Kisii county, Kenya.

The ladies known as the ‘Mchele Babes’, namely Kajuju Samuel and Carolyne Kawira, both 30, were nabbed by the authorities at their hideout in Nairobi’s Kasarani area, after days of engaging manhunt.

Mchele Babes are gangs of women who target men at drinking joints, spike their drinks and follow them home to rob them.

DCI in a statement on Thursday, August 3, 2023, said the deceased, Francis Kariuki, had met the suspected ladies at a popular entertainment spot in Kisii town on July 23, where a well-known mugithi maestro had staged a performance.

The deceased was found unconscious in his house on July 23, 2023, after the duo allegedly drugged him and stole his belongings.

“According to witnesses, the trio had imbibed rounds of cold swallows as they shook leg to the infectious tunes from the artist cum policeman, who had created a storm in the land of matoke that night,” the statement read.

“And as the rounds of frothy waters quadrupled on their table and took a toll on the victim’s faculties, he leapt to his place of abode in Nyanchwa estate with the two babes in tow, to crown the night in style. That was the last time that the deceased was seen alive.

“Among the items recovered from the suspects were an assortment of electronic gadgets belonging to the deceased including a laptop, mobile phone and a flash disk. The suspects are facing murder charges,” the statement added.

The suspects were arraigned before Senior Principal Magistrate, Christine Ogweno on Wednesday, August 2.

The investigation officer was granted custodial orders to detain the suspects for 14 days to allow proper investigation into the matter including toxicology tests.

The suspects were detained at Nyanchwa police station while the deceased’s body lies at Hema Hospital morgue in Kisii.
