The Kwara State Police Command has announced the arrest of the owner of a German Shepherd dog, which caused the death of a 30-year-old Engineer in Ilorin, the state capital.

The deceased, identified as Mohammed Faworaja, died after he was chased by the dog while going to buy sardine in the neighbourhood around the Asa Dam Warah/Osin area of the state capital last weekend.

According to the Vanguard, Faworaja hit his chest on an electric pole while running and violently fell.

The good Samaritans who witnessed the tragic incident immediately chased the dog away and rushed him to the nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead after suffering from internal bleeding.

“The dog, a German shepherd, got loose and chased the deceased who hit his chest against an electric pole. He died of internal bleeding, and the sardine he went to buy was seen beside the pole,” a source said.

“You need to hear the dad speak during one of the prayers organised for him, having retired and handed everything to him. The family is devastated,” the source added.

The spokesperson of the command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, who confirmed the incident said an investigation was ongoing.

“The owner of the dog has been arrested, and the matter is being investigated,” the PPRO added.
