Amid the high cost of petrol, a man has lost his life when he apparently misjudged the depth of the fuel in a tanker he jumped into to steal fuel.

The fuel submerged him and he died before anyone could help him.

His lifeless body was later removed by residents from the fuel truck which was parked in a yet-to-be-identified street.

Residents said two things could actually have been responsible for the death: either he misjudged the depth of the fuel or the fumes of the fuel knocked him out and he fell inside the tanker.

An autopsy will be required to ascertain what exactly killed the man.

In a video of the retrieval of the dead body, onlookers gathered and watched as the lifeless body of the man was pulled out of the tanker.

One of the spectators could be heard wailing and chastising the dead for being greedy for wealth and throwing his life away over money.
