The Cross River State Police Command has announced the arrest of 26 suspects in connection with the alleged killing of Mrs Martina Itagbor, who was accused of practising witchcraft.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Calabar on Tuesday.
She said the suspects were arrested at various locations in the state, and investigations had commence into the matter to determine the culpability of the suspects.
She said Commissioner of Police Gyogon Grimah had directed the prosecution of those involved in the woman’s killing.
It would be recalled that the suspects accused their victim of being responsible for the deaths of some youths in a car crash.
Itagbor, a mother of four, was subsequently beaten and burned alive by youths in Netim, a community in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River.
The police spokesperson reiterated that no stone would be left unturned to ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act were brought to book.
