Rivers Gov Wike under fire for naming court house after his wife

The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has been dragged on Twitter for naming one of the blocks in the newly contructed judicial complex in the state after his wife, Suzette Eberechi, a serving judge.

The governor had been quoted saying: “Every day, people say Wike you are generous. If I’m generous to myself, is it bad? So as I am leaving, let me also name that one (courthouse) after my wife”, he said.

The Magistrate Court was constructed at the Moscow Road in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (LGA).

The edifice was one of the projects President-elect Bola Tinubu commissioned during his visit to the state on Wednesday.

A tweep, Aziz Bakare, fired the first salvo:

“How can a Governor, who’s a Senior Lawyer & Life bencher, use public funds to build a public courthouse only to name one of them after his wife? To make it worse, the wife is currently a Judge in the same state. Forget the NBA, is the NJC still in existence? How is this ethical?”

Many other tweeps joined in on the criticism, with many emphasizing that it was wrong for a sitting governor to be naming public building after his own wife.

However, a few people pointed out that Wike broke no laws and should be left alone.
