Leke, son of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, is currently trending on Twitter on account of a statement he made in an interview.
In the interview he granted the Nigerian Tribune, Leke said he made his first one million naira from selling wristbands, popularly known as rubber bands in local parlance.
“I made my first million [from] selling wristbands, rubber to be precise, promotional gift items for those that are doing branding. Wristbands are just rubber; but if I sell enough of those rubbers with a very tiny margin profit of N50 or N100 at a big Christian event, it adds up.”
The son of the revered cleric made the point to underscore the need for the youth to engage themselves in activities that could yield them money legitimately.
He made the point that not all would have white-colared jobs, but that people should not ignore some avenues to make money simply because they are menial or lowly.
He berated some Nigerians who blame the government for the harsh economy while neglecting menial jobs and businesses.
Many netizens are however coming for him online with the argument that he is in no position to compare himself with the average youth in the street.
Popular Twitter influencer, Dr Penking wrote:
“Leke Adeboye, the son of Enoch Adeboye said he made his first million selling rubber wristband. As at 2021, RCCG had 9,938,617 members. Even if 100 000 members bought his wristband for 100 Naira each, that’s 1 million Naira. Dear Leke, this is not a grass-to-Grace story. Next.”
