Gunmen abduct monarch’s wife, raze homes of Labour, APC chairmen in Imo community
Gunmen have abducted the wife of the royal father of the Amuro autonomous community in the Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State, Ugoeze Umugborogu.
The rampaging gunmen who stormed the community on Wednesday, February 22, also burnt the country homes of the chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Labour Party in Amuro ward.
It was gathered that due to the incident, the residents have started fleeing homes and moving out of the community.
A source, who did not want to be mentioned, told The Nation that after the gunmen kidnapped the monarch’s wife, they set ablaze the houses of some party stalwarts.
“Ugoeze Umugborogu, the wife of the late king of the Amuro autonomous community has been kidnapped. After kidnapping the woman, they went to the house of the Labour Party chairman in Amuro ward, Ifediora Umegboroagu and razed it down. The man and his family were away when they attacked the house. They equally razed the house of the APC chairman in the ward. This is going out of hand. The government should come to our rescue,” the source said.
The spokesperson of the police in the state, Henry Okoye, who confirmed the incident, said the Command was on top of the situation and investigation ongoing to fish out the perpetrators of the dreadful act.
