A video clip showing a senior CBN official addressing a mammoth gathering of people, telling those with N500,000 and less amount to go to their banks to make a deposit has emerged.
It was widely reported on Friday that the CBN had made arrangements for commercial banks to accept old N500 and N1000 notes from customers who had filled a deposit form on CBN website.
The report indicated that the official said that banks would only accept N500k and below, while customers with amounts above N500k would be referred to the CBN.
The spokesperson for the apex later in the day countered the reports, saying that it was fake news.
He said the CBN had no such arrangements empowering the banks to collect old notes from their customers.
Now a visual evidence of an official making the announcement over a public address system has emerged.
The official who was in front of an undisclosed CBN office besieged by hundreds of anxious people wishing to deposit money can be heard assuring them that they would not be left stranded.
He promised that every single old note would be eventually changed, but that the size of the crowd was too much to be attended to at a time.
He said those with N500k and above could wait while the rest should go to their banks where arrangements had been made for the banks to accept the old notes from their customers.
