An advertiser has taken to the popular e-commerce platform, Jiji.ng to offer a pistol for sale.
The weapon was advertised under the Sponsored Ad segment of the platform.
A Twitter user with the handle @XBrianDennis screenshot the ad and brought it to Twitter.
He wrote: “Better dey watch your back for this town” and tagged someone, possibly his friend, with the handle @SeniormanKelzz”.
Some tweeps raised concerns about the ad and tagged Jiji.ng which immediately responded by asking the general public to alert it to any such illegal advertisements on its platform.
Jiji wrote: “In case you come across any other ads that look suspicious or illegal, please let us know on support@jiji.ng or in DM on any social platform, i.e. Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Thank you💚”
The spokesperson of the Lagos Police Command also reacted to the advert.
Attaching the relevant portion of the law that prohibits possession of firearms, he wrote:
“Dey play…with FOURTEEN years imprisonment.”
