Some operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) have invaded the headquarters of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, taking over the office of the embattled governor of the apex bank, Godwin Emefiele.
Recall that there has been some running battle between the DSS and Mr Emefiele over alleged terrorism financing.
The secret service asked a court for an order to arrest Mr Emefiele but it was not granted.
A Federal High Court in the Federal Capital Territory FCT High Court in December barred the SSS from arresting, inviting, or detaining Mr Emefiele.
Emefiele has been out of the country for his annual leave. He is expected back tomorrow, January 17.
The headquarters of the apex bank was however invaded on Monday afternoon by up to 20 vehicles loaded with armed DSS personnel.
According to Daily Nigerian, the operatives barred all staff of the bank from gaining access to Mr Emefiele’s office.
The spokesperson of the DSS, Peter Afunanya, is yet to respond to enquiries on the matter.
