CBN staff, wife set ablaze in their home on New Year’s day

Son, househelp kidnapped, dumped in river

A staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kehinde Fatinoye, and his wife, Bukola, have been set ablaze with their mansion by unknown assailants in the Ibara area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Their son and househelp were whisked away by the assailants in the incident that happened on Sunday, January 1.

Punch reports that the victims were murdered in their home in Abeokuta, shortly after returning from a New Year crossover service.

The deceased’s wife worked with the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, until the incident.

The couple were reportedly burnt beyond recognition with their remains later packed by policemen and health officials who visited the scene.

It was believed that the couple were traced home from church by hoodlums who are yet to be identified.

A sympathizer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the couple was still mourning the demise of their second son in July 2022 when they were killed on New Year’s day.

“Fatinoye family as a whole has been totally wiped out. The first son was also taken away; dead or alive, we don’t know. They were just recovering from the loss of their second son in July 2022.”

The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, described the incident as a case of assassination.

“When the couple were killed, their remains were equally set ablaze”.

“After the dastard act, the couple’s son and their housemaid were kidnapped and threw them into a river. Though the housemaid has been rescued alive, we are yet to see the son”.

He added that a suspect has been arrested over the incident.
