The celebration of Christmas was marred for a family as a policeman shot dead their loved one in the Ajah area of Lagos State.
The incident happened on Sunday around 11 am when a policeman attached to the Ajah Police Station gave a car a chase and released a shot that killed a female lawyer, Bolanle Raheem.
Raheem, her sister, and four children had just left an eatery where they had gone to have a nice time in the spirit of the season and were returning home in their car around 11 am when the cop tried to stop them.
It was not clear if the lady did not realize the cop was trying to stop their car. She continued to drive on and was making a U-turn under the Ajah Bridge when the policeman fired a shot at the car.
Eyewitnesses said the bullet hit the victim, who was then rushed to a hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
The cop who released the shot escaped from the scene immediately he saw the victim had been hit.
He was later arrested and detained by higher authorities.
Speaking on the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said:
“The officer involved in the shooting is an ASP; he has been arrested, detained, and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, for further investigations.”
