About a dozen travellers were rushed to the hospital following a multiple car collision at the Asejire River along the Ibadan-Ife Expressway about noon on Friday, November 25, 2022.
Eye witnesses said the accident was caused by a trailer with failed brakes.
The trailer heading towards Ife rammed into a queue of vehicles trying to navigate the bad patch of road before the bridge.
The impact of the collision sent about four vehicles, including commercial buses packed with passengers into the ditch, stopping inches away from the flowing river.
The trailer landed in the river upside down, with some of the tyres submerged in water.
The driver of the trailer and his conductor were rescued immediately by local swimmers and taken to the hospital along with the passengers of the other affected vehicles who sustained various degrees of injury.
A passenger who said she was going to Ondo for a function said she was the only passenger in the mini bus she was travelling in that did not sustain any injury.
She said others had all been taken to the hospital.
FRSC officials were directing traffic and making efforts to remove obstructions from the road for easy passage for other road users at the time MSN reporter arrived at the scene.
