Police arraign Nasarawa lecturer, his three children for assaulting 20-year-old student

The police in Nasarawa State have charged a lecturer, Fred Ayokhai, and his children for allegedly assaulting a 20-year-old student.

Ayokhai, 53, an associate professor at the Department of History and International Relations, Federal University, Lafia, Nasarawa, was caught on camera with his children assaulting and stripping the lady identified as Blessing Mathias, naked.

The lecturer, his children; Emmanuela  Ayokhai,18, Bob Praise Ayokhai, 23, and Saint-Dan Ayokhai, 21, were arrested on Saturday, October 22.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Ramhan Nansel in a statement, said the accused were arraigned at High Court 1, Lafia, before Justice Aisha Aliyu, the Chief Judge of the state on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

He explained that they were arraigned on a six-count charge of criminal conspiracy, housebreaking and criminal force or assault to a woman with intent to outrage modesty, kidnapping and inflicting physical injury on another.

According to the statement, the offences are punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria, Section 3(1) & 4 of the Nasarawa State Kidnapping (Prohibition) Law, 2019, Section 268 (2) & 354 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria and Section 3 (1) of the Nasarawa State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2019.

The case has been assigned to High Court for trial while the suspects have been remanded in prison custody pending formal arraignment.
