Wife of Lagos celebrity auto dealer, IVD, dies after domestic violence

Bimbo, the wife of popular car dealer Ikechukwu Ogbonna, better known as IVD, is feared dead after suffering severe burns during a violent incident at their residence in Megamound estate, Lekki, Lagos.

It is a tragic end to years of marital crises characterized by several public outbursts from the late wife about the abuse she suffered at the hands of her wealthy husband.

IVD is extremely rich, social and popular, especially among the glitterati. He often hangs out with top celebrities and was once pictured hanging out with Davido.

Sources claim Bimbo confronted her husband IVD on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, over the constant beatings she received, and a fight ensued.

Neighbours claim they heard Bimbo’s screams during the fight.

The fight resulted in their house being set ablaze.

IVD was said to have escaped with minor burns.

Bimbo suffered severe burns and was rushed to the intensive care unit last night.

A viral video shows her groaning in pain as she was rushed to the hospital.

She was rejected by multiple hospitals before one accepted to treat her.

News coming in now suggests she lost the survival battle. This is yet to be independently confirmed.

Many find the development very painful considering that the lady had been crying of being maltreated in her marriage for years.

However, after each episode, she returned to the husband.

In May 2019, Bimbo regained consciousness after she was allegedly beaten into a coma by her husband during pregnancy.

She was 8 months pregnant at the time.

Then, on October 4, 2020, IVD released a video of him reconciling with his wife days after she released an exposé explaining how she suffered domestic violence from him for 19 years.

After that, she returned online at other times to hint at still suffering abuse.

In January 2022, Bimbo declared herself “mentally unstable” and said her life was “being destroyed”.

She also left a short note believed to be directed at her husband.

“I gave you more than I gave myself, so loyal to you that I betrayed myself,” she wrote back in January as she called for people to take her children away before they are destroyed too.

She also added that she entered into her marriage with “good intentions” but she had suffered so much in the union.

She said she had “wanted this marriage to end a long time ago”.

In the January post, she also recalled how she is the only one among the 7 kids her parents had who is not a graduate because she paused her life for IVD.

Bimbo was said to still be a teenager when she and IVD started a family. Friends say she was just 15.

Also, in one of her posts online, Bimbo said IVD had repeatedly pointed his gun at her in the presence of their kids. She said he cheated on her regularly and beat her often too.

Despite speaking about suffering abuse on social media, Bimbo stayed in the marriage.

They have been together for about 22 years.

Before the news of her death filtered in, many people had taken to Twitter to criticize Bimbo for staying in the marriage despite her constant complaints of being abused.

An activist even claimed that she was ‘hawking Bimbo’s matter on her head’ following her outcry over abuse only to discover that she (Bimbo) had blocked her (the activist) on social media. She said she had learnt to stop encouraging her to leave the abusive relationship.
