The Gboleru Ruling House of Ikirun in Osun State has raised an alarm about what it described as an attempt by some individuals to secure the illegal coronation of the Akirun even as the dispute on the stool rages on in court.
In a strongly worded petition to the Governor of Osun State, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, copied to the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Chieftaincy matters on behalf of Prince Tajudeen Adesegun Gboleru and the entire Gboleru Ruling House, by their Counsel, Dapo Ogunwusi, the Gboleru House expressed appreciation to the governor and his government for showing respect for the rule of law and maintaining impartiality so far.
The petition however insisted that there were efforts underway by certain individuals to induce the state government to crown an Akirun while the selection process forms the basis of several cases in court at the Court of Appeal and High Court, pleading with the government not to allow such a travesty.
The Gboleru Ruling House listed some of the cases in court on the Akirun Chieftaincy as follows:
- G. ADEYEMO OYETUNJI V. PRINCE WAHAB AMOO & 13 ORS with Appeal No. CA/AK/19M/2022
- MUDASHIRU OBADIMEJI OLATUNJI & 1 OR V. MOGAJI MUIDI ARISE & 11 ORS with Suit No. HIK/30/2021
- MUDASIRU OBADIMEJI OLATUNJI & 3 ORS V. MOGAJI MUIDI ARISE & 11 ORS WITH Suit No. HIK/28/2021 amongst others.
The petition listed some of such ongoing cases and lamented that any illegal coronation at this stage would be an utter contempt of court and fly in the face of justice and good order in society.
It further condemned such a move as an attempt to create a very dangerous precedent as there is no urgency or fairness behind such a move.
The Gboleru Ruling House expressed its continued confidence in the administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola to continue to uphold the rule of law.
