“I’m still hopeful for marriage” – Says 70-year-old virgin who turned down men who wanted her when she was young
A 70-year-old Congolese woman is still hopeful of becoming a married woman before she dies.
Alphonsine Tawara has never known the joy of sexual intimacy with a man all her life as she made a resolution early in life to keep herself till her wedding night.
Sadly, that night has yet to come.
In an interview with Afrimax, the old woman said she rejected all the men who came for her hand in marriage when she was young and attractive because she wanted to focus on her work and send her siblings through school.
Unfortunately, by the time she was ready to settle down, the men no longer found her attractive.
Rather than get better, the situation progressively got worse as she aged.
“Because I haven’t met the right man for me, I’m still single. However, I was being pursued by various men when I was still a young girl.
“I dated a lot of people, but because I was the one looking after my siblings, I refused to get married before they finished school.”
“I used to turn down marriage proposals from men because I wanted to educate my siblings first and get married afterwards, she added.”
Alphonsine Tawara said she has refused to give up and is hopeful a man will still come along.
“I will get married if I find a husband. I’m prepared to live with my spouse as his wife.”
“Despite not having any biological offspring, she claimed to be the mother of numerous students.”
Incidentally, her siblings went on to have families of their own.
She currently lives with one of her nieces to prevent her from dying of loneliness.
