‘I used contraceptive’, man tells police after being arrested for raping lady in uncompleted building in Lagos

A man who duped and raped a lady in an uncompleted building in Lagos has told the police he took precautions during the act because ‘he did not really know the girl’.

The suspect, Sherif Adebayo, was arrested with his accomplice, Rotimi Fisher, for defrauding a 23-year-old girl in the Ipaja area of Lagos State.

The suspects reportedly played the old trick of a foreigner arriving with goods and needing someone to assist him on the girl.

The lady fell for it and was duped of her gold jewellery and N10,000 on the spot. She later went and withdrew another N65,000 from a nearby ATM and gave it to Fisher.

To complicate matters for the girl, Adebayo went ahead to rape the girl in an uncompleted building around 9pm on Majiyagbe Street, Ipaja, to ‘appease the gods’ or they would both die.

The victim later realized she had been duped and went to the police to report the incident.

The police subsequently apprehended the suspects.

Upon interrogation, Adebayo reportedly said, “I only slept with her once and I used a contraceptive. I got the contraceptive at a mallam’s shop in the area. I used the contraceptive because I don’t really know the girl. I needed to protect myself.”

The suspects have subsequently been arraigned and remanded in prison pending further appearance on October 17, 2022.
