Tinubu’s certificate hits the internet, while Nigerians pick holes in Peter Obi’s own (Photos)

Following the release of the certificates of all contending aspirants for the presidency in 2023 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), controversy has erupted over the authenticity of the bachelor’s degree held by LP’s candidate, Mr Peter Obi.

Observers’ interest was sparked by the fact that INEC listed GCE as the highest qualification submitted by Mr. Obi, against the public knowledge of him as a university graduate.

Many queried whether he did not have the bachelor’s degree he has often professed having, while some defended him that he indeed had the qualification.

Before long, the Bachelor’s degree of Mr Obi surfaced online, ostensibly provided by his supporters who wanted to prove naysayers wrong.

However, the production of the degree did not put paid to the controversy, as keen observers pointed out discrepancies in the certificate.

The certificate bandied online showed that Peter Obi graduated from the University of Nigeria (UNN) with Philosophy as his major.

Peter Obi’s GCE was reportedly obtained in 1986, while his BA that is circulating online bears 1984. The implication, therefore, is that Obi obtained his BA before he finished secondary school.

People are also querying the date on the BA certificate being circulated online. The certificate was issued evidently issued on December 15, 1984, which happened to be a Saturday.

Many are also pointing out that the certificate bears no seal or stamp that should have validated its authenticity.

Some also claimed the serial number on the certificate does not align properly in comparison with others from the same university.

Some of the critics also opined that the serial number is suspect as it indicated that Obi was the 198th graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1984.

This would be impossible considering that the university was established in 1960.

Many of those engaged in the online debate are accusing Peter Obi’s supporters of producing a fake certificate to justify his university qualification without his knowledge.

Meanwhile, the internet is saturated with a picture of a letter confirming Bola Tinubu as an alumnus of Chicago State University and his NYSC record.
