Some social media users are accusing Peter Obi, his running mate and the Labour Party of hypocrisy after some pictures hit the internet showing LP-branded bags of rice and groundnut oil.
Peter Obi has a reputation for frugality and has a popular saying that he does not give ‘shishi’ to anyone in achieving his political ambition. (Shishi’ was among the smallest units of money in Nigeria at a time.)
Obidients (supporters of Obi) use the statement as a slogan, especially in a bid to despise political opponents who they accuse of vote-buying and corruption.
They often attack photos and video clips of Tinubu-branded bags of rice and other commodities and accuse the APC leader of trying to bribe the electorates.
With this background, social media was excited when photos of Labour Party branded food packages surfaced online.
A Twitter user @StFreakingKezy tweeted a large collection of LP branded bags of rice and wrote: “Labour Party sharing rice?” He added laughing emojis.
Reactions came in torrents, with many mocking the Obidients.
@ucheobinna19 responded: “But we no dey give shishi”
@akeemfadare: “That’s not shishi, that’s rice”
@akeemfadare: “People deceiving people, they are fake people. Everything about them is fake”
@Elvisgolden3: “Nor be them say them wan raise the standard of campaigns”
@TundeMusaEkene: “Rice no be shishi naa”
BoluTife Amoda Ogunlere : “We no dey give shishi but we dey share rice.”
@marythesa: “I think say dem no de give shishi????”
Abudu tried to shed more light on the whole issue. He wrote: “It was done on behalf of Obi. You definitely know we don’t give Shishi”.
Reactions are still coming on the thread at the time of filing this.
