A Lagos businesswoman has recounted how she was stabbed twice in slow-moving traffic on the Carter Bridge, Lagos recently by robbers who dispossessed her of her valuables.
The lady, Abigail Israel, took to Twitter to narrate her experience on September 2, 2022 and warn others about taking precautions while in Lagos traffic.
According to her, she got a Uber around 6 pm or thereabouts from Lagos Island and was on her way to Surulere when they decided to take Carter Bridge because they learnt there was heavy traffic on Eko Bridge.
She said it turned out that Carter Bridge was worse as the traffic was at a standstill.
Israel said she had two phones with her on the front passenger seat, an iPhone and an Android.
She kept the Android, which was her main phone, in the handbag and was browsing with the iPhone around 8 pm when a client called her and forced her to bring out the second phone from her handbag.
Done with the call, she said she placed the phone beside her on the seat, while she continued to browse with the other one.
She recounted that a man then suddenly smashed her window with a knife and stabbed her twice, first on the hand and then the leg.
She was quickly dispossessed of her two phones and other valuables before the robber fled.
Israel said good Samaritans pulled their shirts and tied them on her bleeding hand and leg while they tried to get to the nearest hospital.
She said in spite of their best effort, they spent another one hour and a half in the traffic, while she was writhing in pain before they could get to the hospital where her wounds were sutured.
According to her, when she got to the police station, the following day to lodge a report about the incident, she found others who had the same experience there.
The police reportedly told her that she should not use phones in Lagos traffic to avoid a recurrence.
