Mass Deportation: Dubai-based Nigerians call out the Consulate General of Nigeria in Dubai
About a thousand Nigerians in a deportation camp in Dubai have cried out for government assistance to be brought back to Nigeria.
This followed a clamp down on many illegal immigrants, mostly Africans, in the popular United Arab Emirates city.
Many of the affected Nigerians are calling out the consulate General of Nigeria in Dubai for being inefficient.
They claimed that most people whose passports have expired or about to expire cannot renew them because of bureaucracy and corruption. Interview slots are allegedly booked by touts and resold to genuine Nigerians seeking them at exorbitant costs.
Authorities in Dubai reportedly asked visitors who had overstayed to report themselves and many willingly did so.
While the embassies of other countries reportedly waded in and bailed their citizens out, Nigerian consulate officials were nowhere to be found.
One of the ladies who spoke to TVC News on the telephone says they have been at the Dubai Deportation camp for over a week without adequate food and care
According to her, they are almost a thousand Nigerians in the camp, including children.
