6 KNUST students arrested for gang-raping 100-level student

A first-year female student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been gang-raped by six male students.

The incident happened this morning, August 3, 2022 in one of the hostels of the institution.

According to reports, the hapless girl was lured by a 400-level Business Administration student named Patrick Ofosu into his room at Ultimate Hostel, formerly Evandy Hostel.

Sources claimed the victim was in a relationship with Patrick Ofosu, who had at some point in the past messaged the girl that he would love to have a threesome with her.

The girl did not take kindly to the suggestion and Patrick was said to have assured her that it was a silly idea he had and that he had discarded it.

Patrick later persuaded his girlfriend to visit him in his hostel. Unknown to her, he had also invited his friends into the room.

After forcefully sleeping with the girl, he invited his friends to have their turns.

All the boys have been rounded up by the police and were earlier today arraigned for rape. They have been remanded in police custody while the case has been adjourned till August 17.

It is the second gang-rape case on the KNUST campus in the past three weeks.

Last month, a police officer stationed and a KNUST student were arrested for allegedly gang-raping a first-year student of the school.

Joel Osei Owusu, a Level 400 Business Administration student, was accused of luring the victim into his room at the same Ultimate Hostel, formerly Evandy Hostel, and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

He allegedly recorded the act with his cell phone, ostensibly as a blackmail tool.

Joel later invited his friend, whom the victim highly suspected to be a policeman at the Bomso Police Station, into the room.

General L/Cpl Frank Adu-Poku also, allegedly, forcibly had sex with the lady without her consent.

The incident is said to have occurred on Tuesday, July 19, at about 2:30 pm.

Two days later, the victim lodged a complaint with the KNUST District CID which commenced investigations into the matter.

The police, in collaboration with the office of the Dean of Students of KNUST, arrested suspect Joel Osei-Owusu at his hideout.

Upon interrogation, the suspect admitted to having had carnal knowledge of the complainant and mentioned General L/Cpl Frank Adu-Poku as his accomplice.

An investigation is ongoing in the case.
