Couple remanded in Kirikiri prison for allegedly assaulting police officers who stopped them
A couple has been remanded in the Kirirkiri prison for allegedly assaulting police officers who stopped them for questioning in Lagos state on Sunday, July 24.
The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, shared a video of the couple having a confrontation with the police officers.
According to him, the lady was angry at the police officers for stopping their vehicle and allowing other vehicles to pass.
Hundeyin stated that the couple was arraigned in court today and that they have now been remanded in Kirikiri prison.
His tweets read: ”Yesterday, July 24, 2022, at about 2:30 pm, police officers of Ipaja Division flagged down a Mercedes Benz car for not having number plates at Oluwaga-Ipaja. A passenger, Mrs Adebayo Ayobami aggressively and disdainfully questioned why the police officers stopped her husband and not other vehicles.
She, thereafter, declined to answer any question. In an attempt to get them to the station for further questioning owing to their unprovoked aggressiveness and suspicious behaviour, she and her husband, Ayobami Clinton assaulted the police officers.
The car was impounded. They were arraigned today, and the court remanded them at Kirikiri prison.”
