Footage shows car chase, shootout between police and man who shot his dad dead (Video)

The police in Florida, United States have released footage from dashboard cameras and body cameras showing the capture of Jonny Santiago after a high-speed police chase and shootout between the 18-year-old and police officers on Monday in Mount Dora.

The police were called about 11 p.m. Sunday from the teen’s mother, who is in New York, concerned about an argument Santiago had with his father at their Deltona home, while she was on the phone with her spouse.

Police spokesperson Andrew Gant said deputies were dispatched to check on them at their house on Lehigh Drive but found nobody there. Then, deputies in DeBary spotted a Ford F-150 truck Santiago was known to drive. Grant said the vehicle fled from an attempted stop.

Santiago reportedly sped away from police again in Sanford before a helicopter spotted the pickup about 4:45 p.m. Monday, near U.S. Highway 441 and Eudora Road.

A deputy tried to pull the truck over while driving along U.S. Hwy 441 through Mount Dora.

What followed was a high-speed chase that dash cam footage caught on camera. As the chase continued, the footage appeared to show Santiago firing at the deputy while trying to flee. The deputy yelled “shots fired! He shot at me by the cemetery…It looked like a black handgun.”

The brief chase ended at Donnelly Street and 9th Avenue, where Santiago crashed into the Traditional Congregation of Mount Dora.

Multiple officer’s body cam and dash cam videos show Santiago pulling a gun and firing at the deputy’s car. A few seconds later, multiple officers open fire at him while shouting: “Stop!” and “Get down!”

Santiago slid out of his car after he was apparently hit by police bullets.

He was cuffed before officers administered first aid treatment on him.

“Oh my god it hurts so bad,” Santiago said while in obvious pain. “I’m dying bro.”

Footage showed apparent gunshot wounds in the shoulder and buttocks.

Cops kept repeating: “You’re not going to die.”

Spokesperson Lt. John Herrell told reporters Monday night Santiago was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and was in stable condition.

He had at least two handguns that he surrendered after being shot, Herrell said.

No law enforcement officers were hurt. According to Gant, Santiago’s father, Juan Santiago, had not yet been found or heard from as of Tuesday morning. The investigation into his disappearance is ongoing.

The teen is considered a “person of interest,” Gant said. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood told reporters he believes Juan Santiago is deceased and the son disposed of his body.
