Sanusi Lamido’s wife berates men who abandon their wives, children during bandit attacks
Maryam Sanusi, one of the wives of the former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido, has berated men who are in the habit of abandoning their wives and children when faced with bandit attacks.
In a post shared on her IG page, Mrs Sanusi recounted how several men abandoned their pregnant wives to face bandits who invaded their homes. She pointed out that women are always taught by clerics to stand firmly beside their husbands in good and bad times. and wondered why the same message is not preached to men.
She added that men should be taught to be ”Faithful, true, loyal and protective,” and that providing for their families is not enough.
She recounted the story of a family that was attacked by bandits. According to her, the man was in the living room when the guard ran to inform them that bandits were at the gate.
She narrated that the head of the family fled from the home leaving behind his wife and children.
The bandits tortured the woman and raped her before leaving the home.
Sanusi further narrated that the man later returned and went ahead to marry another wife, neglecting the woman who literarily took a bullet for him.
She charged the clerics to begin to teach the men to be loyal and protective of their families.
