The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has denied reports making the rounds that he asked Christians to buy guns to secure themselves during church services.
Preaching from Ifewara, Osun State, via telecast during the church’s monthly thanksgiving service, the renowned cleric denied asking church members to acquire guns.
“I never asked Christians to go and buy guns. Samson in the Bible did not fight with guns.’’
He added that Samson fought a great battle with a horse’s jaw bone.
“Don’t buy guns. You don’t want to kill anybody. We just must make sure that unwanted visitors don’t come to our churches’’ he said.
He said in any event, the authorities would not give them the permission to buy guns.
He added, however, that they do not require the authorities’ cow’s jawbones, in apparent reference to the story of Samson in the Bible that fought a battle with horse’s jawbone and prevailed.
He said he had always thought there was a need to have jaw bones readily available to demonstrate to the children how Samson fought and won with one.
Adeboye also urged members of the church not to be afraid to attend church programmes because of the rising insecurity in the country.
Recall that some terrorists attacked Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owo, on June 5, 2022 and kill over 40 worshippers.
The 80-year- old cleric prayed that God would fight for his people.
