Wike shrugs off reports of meeting with Tinubu in France

Governor Nyesom Wike, currently in Turkey on holiday has shrugged off reports that he met in France with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress.

In a post on Thursday night, the controversial governor simply wrote: “Relaxing and enjoying a fine evening”.

He posted two photographs, one of which showed him with his holidaying pal, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.

An APC stalwart in Lagos, Joe Igbokwe had claimed a meeting took place, only for him to delete the post, when challenged by netizens to produce a pictorial proof.

There has been no reaction from the Tinubu camp since the report broke out on Thursday.

The unconfirmed report came as Wike was said to be angry with the PDP leaders for overlooking him to pick Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as Abubakar Atiku’s running mate.

Meanwhile, a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri has debunked the reports of Wike meeting with Tinubu.

Maina, a former Minister of Police Affairs who reacted to the claim in an interview with Daily Trust, disclosed that he was with the Rivers State Governor on Wednesday, June 29, in Istanbul, Turkey.

He said:

“Governor Wike came directly from Nigeria to Istanbul, Turkey. He did not go to France as speculated. This is to debunk the propaganda of the APC through Igbokwe. This is fake news orchestrated by the sinking ruling party which is on its way out.”

Asked what their mission to Istanbul is, he said:

“What is your business with our mission? We came to rest after our national convention. Of course, as a political animal, I do politics anywhere I find myself.”
