The children of former Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC), Zakari Umaru-Kigbu, who were kidnapped by gunmen after they killed their father at their Umar-Kigbu’s residence in Azuba Bashayi, Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Sunday May 29, have regained their freedom.
Police Public Relations Officer in Nasarawa State, ASP Ramhan Nansel confirmed that the two girls have been released.
Nansel said the NPC commissioner’s children were rescued due to the pressure mounted on the kidnappers who were hiding around a mountain in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state.
The victims have been reunited with their family after undergoing medical examination at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital. When asked whether ransom was paid to secure their release, the PPRO said the command had no knowledge of such.
Daily Trust however reported that a family source said N30 million ransom was paid to the kidnappers before the children were released.
