Modele Sarafa-Yusuf calls for unity in Ogun APC ahead of elections
Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, one of the leading governorship aspirants in Ogun State has called for unity among party members ahead of the general elections in the state.
Citing the divided nature of the All Progressives Congress in the state, and using the symbol of the party as a metaphor, Sarafa-Yusuf said only when the party is united can APC defeat the fledgling opposition and retain the state as a progressive state.
Emphasising the importance of party internal democracy, the former broadcaster urged party members to select candidates who are popular, conciliatory, without political and moral baggage and who can work across party lines.
She cautioned against the imposition of candidates during the imminent primaries.
Sarafa-Yusuf spoke at the declaration ceremony of another gubernatorial aspirant, Adekunle Akinlade in Abeokuta.
The Ogun State APC is currently divided into three factions: the Ibikunle Amosun faction, the Gbenga Daniel faction and the Chief Olusegun Osoba-led faction.
Close watchers believe that the fight for the soul of the party, which began in the build-up to the 2019 general elections is still simmering beneath the surface and efforts by the reconciliation committee of the party led by the current national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, has done little to bridge the huge divide.
