The photos of the parents of Deborah Samuel in their humble home, capturing their helplessness and resignation to fate have evoked the sympathy of Nigerians.
Deborah Samuel, a 200-level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto state, was gruesomely murdered by her schoolmates on Thursday, May 12, over allegations that she made insulting comments against Prophet Mohammed on the school’s WhatsApp platform.
Newsmen went to the humble abode of Deborah’s parents in Niger State where they sought to get their next line of action following the unfortunate fate that befell their daughter.
Mr and Mrs Emmanuel Garba told the newsmen who interviewed them they had resigned to their fate and left everything in the hands of God.
The father said no help was extended to him by anyone to get the remains of his daughter back home for burial. He said he made the arrangements himself and shouldered the burden alone.
The mother regretted the money spent on Deborah’s education, pointing out that the education of her siblings suffered because of the fees they had to pay to see her through tertiary education.
She vowed to not spend so much on education of her children again, considering that the family was struggling to make ends meet.
Many Nigerians reacting to the pictures showered prayers on the couple for God to strengthen them to overcome the trial.
