BREAKING: Female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto stoned, burnt to death for blasphemy (Videos)
A female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, simply identified as Deborah, has been beaten and burnt to death over alleged religious blasphemy.
The lady was reportedly accused of insulting Prophet Muhammed on a Whatsapp group during the month of Ramadan.
Information gathered by Microsecondnews indicated that trouble started when Deborah cautioned someone who posted a religious message on a platform for some students.
The message was said to be one of those that demand that they be forwarded to others lest the recipient suffered bad luck.
Deborah reportedly complained that such messages should not be sent to a WhatsApp group created for the sharing of important information about tests and assignments.
“Send us important information. This group was not created for you to send useless information. It was created for you to send past questions if there is a test or an assignment. It is not for you to send useless information. Which prophet?”, the late Deborah was quoted to have stated this in a voice note she shared to the WhatsApp group.
When she sensed that it was poorly received, the deceased reportedly deleted the voice note, but other members of the group had shared it among their friends in the school. It eventually sparked tension among the students on the campus.
An unsuccessful attempt was made on her life but the school’s security men came to her rescue and informed the police when the situation was getting too violent for them to handle.
The police were said to be helpless as the mob was pelting them with stones as they tried to shield Deborah. They soon chased the police away and broke down the shelter where the lady was kept.
They stoned her to death and set her ablaze. The shelter, a bolding bay for apprehended criminals was razed by the religious bigots.
The school authorities have subsequently shut down the institution indefinitely over the incident.
A video of the incident was uploaded online. The video showed a raging fire and some men stoning the object of the fire while shouting Allahu Akbar!”
Another clip below showed when she was being stoned and hit with sticks as she lay lifeless on the ground.
Efforts to reach the state police command’s spokesperson proved abortive at the time of filing this report.
