A 75-year-old man identified as Vincent Okoye has allegedly been released from police custody after he was initially arrested for having sexual relations with an 11-year-old girl.
According to a source, the incident happened on Wednesday, April 27 in Umueri, Anambra State.
“Vincent has been having carnal knowledge with the victim for over a year now and her mother is aware. The victim’s mother is a mistress to the suspect who is a cabinet chief in the community.
According to a confessional video by the girl, she revealed that her mother used to send her on errands to Vincent’s house and would tell her to do as he instructed.
She said she would sometimes sleepover and they would engage in an all-night romp.
They were reportedly at it on Wednesday when some bricklayers working in the next compound found them and raised an alarm.
The bricklayers heard the scream of the young girl and rushed to break into Vincent’s house where he was brought out and interrogated.
He was reportedly beaten before he was handed over to the police.
Residents of the community were however displeased that the suspect was released allegedly on the excuse that he was a chief and had been punished with suspension from the cabinet of the Igwe of the community.
A source who spoke with Instablog said: “We need the authorities in the state to legally take up this case and ensure that Vincent doesn’t get away with this. The horrible things the victim said he made her do is enough to jail him for life. Vincent shouldn’t be walking freely in the community and the girl needs urgent therapy”.
