‘Vile, depraved beings!’ Nigerians curse trolls who mocked last tweet by shot train passenger, Chinelo
Nigerians have poured curses and invectives on the Twitter users who derided the late Dr Chinelo Megafu in her last moments on earth.
Megafu was a passenger on the Abuja-Kaduna train that was bombed and sprayed with bullets by armed bandits on Monday evening. She worked as a medical doctor at St. Gerald’s hospital in Kaduna.
Abolore: Responded to the victim asking if she was dead.Struck by a bullet, the terrified medical doctor mustered some energy to make what would turn out to be her final tweet on earth.
‘I’m on the train. I’ve been shot. Please, pray for me!’
Many good-spirited Nigerians reacted with empathy and offered prayers for her safety.
However, some Nigerians responded with cynicism, rudeness and in some cases, outright callousness.
A man with the name Abolore responded to Chinelo’s tweet: “Are you dead now?”
Another cynic, @susanhenshaw5D tweeted: “Send us pictures.”
Iyabo Awokoya responded with “Oni iro oshi” (Useless liar).
Another one identified as Posh Mama tweeted: “Your shot isn’t serious. Otherwise, you’ll be asking us to call the army. Not pray for you.”
Upon the realization of the death of the young medical doctor this morning, many Nigerians have taken to Twitter to pour invectives on the people who showed the lady undeserved callousness in her hour of terror and tragedy.
Many commentators opined that the people were too eager to protect the government of the day that they spared no thought for the poor victim.
