Some unknown gunmen struck at Ifite, Awka, Anambra State earlier today, but met with stiff resistance from the community members who had become fed up with their activities.
The community’s Vigilante service operatives engaged in a gun battle with the men and were able to subdue them.
At the end of the battle, one of the men was captured, while others fled.
The captured one was initially to be handed over to the police, but some members of the community resisted it, as they accused the man of having killed someone before.
They tied the hand of the gunman behind him, beat him severely and set him ablaze.
