BRT Murder: Bamise’s family, activists protest at Lagos State House of Assembly (Photo)

Relatives, activists and other protesters have stormed the Lagos House of Assembly to demand justice for Oluwabamise Ayanwole who was murdered while transiting from her workplace to her brother’s home through a BRT bus on February 26.

She had boarded a BRT bus from Lekki area of the state and was meant to alight at Osodi, but never made it. Her dead body was found at Ebute Ero on Lagos Island.

The protesters, who went to the Assembly with the immediate elder sister of the deceased, Damilola Titilayo Ayanwole, said it was painful that such an incident happened.

They also called for more efforts by the government to ensure the security of lives and property of residents.

The protesters also demanded justice, expressing doubt over the safety of BRT vehicles.

Addressing the protesters, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, promised that the legislative arm of the state government would ensure that justice is served in the case.

Obasa expressed deep concern at the incident and conveyed his condolences to the family and friends of the victim.

“The erroneous belief that it would be swept under the carpet is unnecessary. The driver has been arrested and is in custody,” the Speaker said.

“We are watching and must ensure justice is done on the case. The Governor has spoken about it and I just want to appeal that we work together to get justice.

“We will do everything to make sure that justice is served. Justice must be served. And everybody in Lagos must be protected,” he added.
