BRT Murder: ‘We will get justice for Bamise Ayanwole’- Governor Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor,  Babajide Sanwo-Olu has promised that no stone will be left unturned in order to get justice for Oluwabamise Toyosi Ayanwole,  who was found dead after boarding a BRT bus on her way home from work.

“I hereby give you my word that justice will be served,” he said as he condoled with the family of the victim.

Bamise, 22, boarded the state-owned bus, BRT, on Feb. 26 while on her way home from work.

During the trip from Lekki to Oshodi, she made a call to someone to complain that she felt uneasy about being in the bus.

She recorded a video to show the person on the other end of the call the dark, empty bus and she asked them to pray for her.

That was the last her family heard from her.

The family was tossed from one police station to the other while they were trying to enlist their support to probe the disappearance of their daughter.

The brother said they visited four different police stations from Ajah to Mafoluku, with each station saying it did not happen in their jurisdiction.

The family ultimately took matters into their own hands and went to the BRT park at Osodi where they were directed to their central park at Ilupeju.

They did not get the desired cooperation they wanted as they were directed to go and get a police report first. However, they were able to track down the bus boarded by Bamise and demanded to see the driver of the bus.

The brother of the deceased narrated how they waited for hours and were not able to see the driver. They then took their matters to the public space to galvanise the authorities to help them to find their missing daughter.

This was reportedly criticized by BRT management who told the family they were muddling up the issues by taking it to public space. But the family did not relent.

On Monday, the online campaign paid off as someone posted a clue about a body being found at Ebute Ero earlier. The brother followed up on it and it turned out it was the body of Bamise.

Eye witness said the body was tossed out from a BRT bus that zoomed off and she cried for help.

Some people reportedly poured sachet water on her to revive her.

An eye witness also claimed that when he got there with the others she was still breathing but when he tried to help her, the crowd there shouted that he wanted to use what remained of her.

It was claimed that the policemen at Ebute Ero station were alerted but it was not clear if they responded that same day. The police reportedly later visited the scene to take the body to the mortuary.

Meanwhile,  the driver of the BRT bus has been arrested.

He claimed he picked up Bamise and some other men who then pointed a gun at him and asked him to stop at Carter Bridge.

He claimed they then asked him to open the door and they dragged Bamise out with them.
