A final year Pharmacy student of the University of Benin (Uniben), Susan Oboh, has been shot dead by armed robbers.
Reports indicated that the incident happened on Thursday, March 3, when the hapless lady walked into an armed robbery operation around her residence in Osasogie, Benin, Edo State.
A source familiar with the incident said: “Some residents in the area went to buy a bag of water and overhead some guys saying, “e be like say we go soon start to rob for this Osasogie.’ (It’s like we will start robbing people in this area).
The residents, a man and his girlfriend, reportedly took to their heels when they heard that.
The robbers were said to have trailed them to their compound and asked that they released their phones. They also asked the man for his car key.
About this time, Susan came out to see off a visitor unaware of the robbery in progress. She was reportedly accosted as shot by one of the robbers, who fled immediately after the gunshot was fired.
One of the robbers was overheard screaming at his colleague for shooting the student.
Susan was rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) where efforts were made to stabilize her. However, she reportedly died on Saturday, March 5.
