CCTV footage shows moment sex attacker pounced on lone lady walking home in the UK (Video)
A CCTV released by the police in the United Kingdom has shown the moment a sex attacker ran after a lone woman returning home after a night out, suffocating her before she was rescued.
The assailant, Carl Pass, 48, was captured running after the woman as she walked home on West Common Lane playing fields, Scunthorpe, in the early hours of October 10, 2021.
The victim had been on a night out and was trying to get home before her encounter with Pass.
She realized someone was running after her and she tried to run but it was too late. Pass caught up with her, pulled her to the ground and pinned her there, face down.
Pass his hand over her victim’s mouth restricting her airflow until she passed out for more than two minutes.
The lady regained consciousness after about two minutes only to find Pass beside her pretending to be a concerned good Samaritan in the hope that she would not recognize him as the attacker. He tried to gain the confidence of the victim so he could sexually assault her.
The victim was lucky other people came around and Pass was not able to carry out his intention of sexually violating her.
She was taken to safety, where she reported the attack to the police.
He was later apprehended, tried and sentenced to three years imprisonment.
Detective Constable Katie Drapier from Humberside Police said after Pass was sentenced: ‘This incident was shocking and distressing, even more so due to the level of violence used by Carl Pass against the victim’
‘The victim has been so incredibly brave throughout and I can’t begin to put myself in her shoes.
‘I would like to thank her, her family and all the witnesses who came forward to assist our investigation, for their support throughout and for their kind comments passed onto my team.’
Judge Fanning hailed the case as a ‘truly impressive piece of detective work.’
He said: ‘At a time when the resolve of certain police forces to address crimes against women is questioned by many, this police force, and its officers, are to be commended for the speed with which they reacted, and the resources and zeal poured into this case in order to find you so quickly on initially limited evidence.’
