Sad moment friends brought out the lifeless body of University of Ghana student from pool (Video)

A video clip has shown the moment the lifeless body of a year one student of the University of Ghana, Legon, was brought out of the institution’s swimming pool.

The body was brought out by young men in boxers who had probably also been swimming in the pool.

The clip shows the body being taken into a waiting white ambulance for onward transportation to the hospital.

The video has raised concerns about the lack of awareness about first aid and resuscitation procedure among young people as the video showed that no attempt was made to give the young man CPR at the site of the incident.

Many people commenting online expressed the view that the young man might have been resuscitated if the rescuers had administered CPR on him.

The young man was found lifeless in the pool in the evening of Saturday 29th January 2022.

The University in a statement said it was working with the police to establish the cause of death.

The student, identified as Nicholas Atteh, a Bachelor of Science in Administration, died around 1640 hours while using the swimming pool at the University’s Sports Directorate.

A statement signed by Mrs Elizier T. Ameyaw-Buronyah, Director, Public Affairs Directorate of the University and copied the press, said the family of the student had been notified and that the body had been deposited at the University Hospital, while further investigations continued.

It said Management of the University was mourning his tragic loss and sent deepest condolences to his family and friends on behalf of the entire University community.

The Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University also sent a message of condolence over the loss of Atteh.

A statement signed by the UG SRC Executive Officers said: “With teary eyes and heavy hearts, the Students Representative Council of the University of Ghana announces the sad news of the demise of Nicholas Atteh, a Bachelor of Science in Administration student at the University of Ghana. The sad incident happened at the Legon Pool yesterday, Saturday, 29th January 2022.”

It extended condolence to the bereaved family.
