The police in Nottingham, United Kingdom are scratching their head to figure out how an elderly man managed to escape their attention for over 70 years, driving without a licence or insurance.
The pensioner, who was born in 1938, admitted he had driven illegally since the age of 12.
He came to police attention after his car was flagged by automatic number-plate recognition (ANPR) cameras as it pulled up next to a Tesco Extra.
‘We can’t quite believe what happened’, Nottinghamshire Police officers said.
‘Thankfully he had never had an accident or caused anyone an injury’.
The pensioner told the police that since he had been driving from Age 12, he had never been in an accident, neither had he ever been stopped by the police.
Officers in Bulwell, Nottingham, posted on the local force’s Facebook page: ‘We can’t quite believe what happened next.
‘The driver, who was born in 1938, coughed that he had been driving with no licence and no insurance since he was 12 years old and somehow had managed to never be stopped by the police.
‘Thankfully he had never had an accident [or] caused anyone an injury.’
They warned: ‘Due to the increased number of ANPR cameras in Nottingham, even on the small trips you are likely to hit a camera, so make sure your documents are in order… because it will catch up with you one day.’
It is not clear if the police took any action against the pensioner.
