Judge tells DSS she doesn’t want to see Nnamdi Kanu in Fendi outfit again

Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja federal high court has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to allow Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to change his clothes.

Nyako gave the order after Kanu’s lead counsel, Mike Ozekhome drew her attention to the alleged maltreatment his client has been subjected to in DSS custody.

Alleging that Kanu is still being kept in solitary confinement, Ozekhome further revealed that inmates who greeted him were also being subjected to the same treatment.

He added that this is contrary to Justice Nyako’s order to the DSS, to allow the IPOB leader to practise his faith, have his bath, change his clothes and eat properly.

Reiterating her previous order that the IPOB leader should be allowed the maximum comfort possible, including changing his Fendi outfit with which he was brought back into the country in June 2021, Justice Nyako also reminded Kanu’s counsel that a detention facility is not a five-star hotel.

She said: “I don’t want to see him in these clothes again. This one is almost off-white. Also, make sure that you allow him to exercise.”
