Nine injured as truck crushes vehicles at Otedola Bridge

A tanker lost control and rammed into five vehicles at the Otedola Bridge outward Lagos on Thursday night, injuring nine people.

According to the Lagos Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the incident happened at 10:40 pm on Thursday while the vehicles were trying to connect the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

He disclosed that the injured motorists were taken to the Emergency Centre Ojota while others were taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja.

Ogungbemide told the Punch that the driver of the tanker fled the scene before a team of emergency responders including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos Fire Service, Lagos State Police Command arrived the scene for rescue operations.

The Otedola Bridge has over the years been known for serious automobile accidents involving fuel-laden tankers and trucks that often explode, resulting in inferno, burnt vehicles, loss of lives and properties.

There seems to be no end in sight.
