A man has lost his life in an eating competition on Christmas day in Uganda man.
The 56-year-old man identified as Sentekola Gad choked to death during an eating contest in Kibimbiri, Kihiri sub-country, Kanungu district.
The organisers of the contest are being blamed for not putting proper safety protocol in place for the competition.
It was gathered that the victim was taken to a health centre in Kihihi where it was established he choked to death.
Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, condemned the organizer, identified as Salvan, and described the entire set-up as amateurish.
He announced that the police was searching for Salvan to answer a few questions on the incident and to explain why he had no safety protocols in place for the competition.
He noted that the contestants ought to have been warned of the risk they ran. He also said provision should have been made for medical personnel to be present during the competition.
The PPRO warned the public against such risky contests as food and alcohol drinking competitions.
