A 19-year-old boy, Tolu Olubunmi Bassey, has reportedly beaten up his 72-year-old grandmother over food in the Ogba area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Boxing Day, December 26, 2021.
The boy who lives with the old woman together with his own mum was said to have got angry when the grand mum asked him to carry the kerosene she bought for the purpose of cooking food.
Before then, he had reportedly been pestering the old woman for food, which prompted her to buy the kerosene.
It was gathered that the boy who was expecting food was angered that he was asked to carry kerosene and reportedly slapped the old woman, before proceeding to kick her.
His mom and his friends were said to be there at the time of assault, but reportedly did not restrain him.
It was reported that it was not the first time the boy would beat the old woman and other aged members of his family.
Efforts to get the police at Ogba station to intervene reportedly failed as they allegedly demanded N20,000 for them to bring him in for questioning.
“They are refusing to do anything and they’re saying it’s a domestic issue,” a source, who described the suspect as his cousin, said.
“My cousin feels he is untouchable and keeps terrorizing everyone. How can a 19-year-old boy beat up his grandmother to the point that she was rushed to the hospital and can not even lift up a spoon? Everyone is scared of him,” the source said.
