Benue State government has petitioned the Nigeria Police and Department of State Security Service (DSS) over an alleged rape of some female students in a federal government-owned institution in the state.
Female students of Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC), Otukpo, in Benue State were reported to have been raped by a staff member of the school.
The staff was accused of raping a 16-year-old female SSS 3 student and there are rumours of other female students being subjected to the same ordeal.
While it was alleged that the suspected rapist has been suspended, human right activist, Julie Ooja told Daily Trust that she tried to take the case up but the school authority claimed it was being handled administratively.
The state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Mike Gusa however announced in a press conference in Makurdi, that the state government had taken up the matter by asking the appropriate government institution to investigate the case.
Gusa said: “We have written a letter of complaint to the police and the Director of SSS in the state to carry out a discreet investigation into the matter and verify the veracity of the case.’’
